Some weeks are hurricanes. They don’t give you time even to breathe. one thing after another more like chaos leading to chaos. First I fell sick and could not be in blogosphere for a very long period and then this 19th I lost my Grandmother ( maternal) my Nani, she as around 94.
How fast is becomes was…. sad and scary.
Nani ( Amma for every one, which means Mother) to me meant every thing good and comforting, her white Saree’s with thin borders, faint sweet smell of pink Vaseline, spic and span house everything in place , everything in order, her yummilicious pickles and marmalade’s and my beautiful summer vacations. she was an excellent cook and a giver. She lived for others, a beautiful generous resilient soul..no hurdle or hurricane could dampen her spirit and energy. Even in her last days the invictus in the frail body would get up and do things on her own as much as possible.Nani I will miss you a lot and up there amongst the brightest stars where I think I saw you yesterday, I wish you happiness and peace.
My Mom wrote a beautiful tribute and a haiku for my Nani. And when I was reading what she wrote about her mom I felt this was exactly how I felt about her( my mother), Supportive, encouraging, inspiring, best teacher, gossip mate, fun friend and a lovely blogger.
she is a beautiful heart. Do stop by at her blog whenever you get time to read the tributes.
she is unpredictable ( in a good way) like me, today she wrote a poem on me. It is so funny and those who know me will agree it is a perfect description of this insane, eccentric silly person that I am.
I am posting a verse of the poem here please do go to her blog to read the rest.
“She knows everything,
Frogs don’t dream
Giraffe can’t scream
Snakes can’t hear
Crocodiles have tear
She knows everything,
Lions like chocolate mousse
Pythons drink carrot juice
Rabbits can climb the tree
Tigers watch movie if it’s free……..”

Catching up now and so sorry to hear of your loss. A beautiful tribute.
Soma it is heartbreaking for you and your Mom that your Nani has passed but what a lovely woman she was and will always be my great friend, I know that for the now the feelings of loss are heightened and that she is missed greatly, an empty space for some but you know she will always be with you in heart and mind and at this moment in time where melancholy feelings of her passing overpower your inner thoughts, there are heavy hearts and tears of sorrow, but there will also be a time when her life can be celebrated for the very sweet woman that she was, your Nani for the now and indeed forever, that is how very special and unique she was to You and to your Mom. I offer you Soma, your Mom and all of your family a peaceful rest of the week and of course my condolences at this incredibly sad time. Be very well my great friend…

May ‘Her Soul’ rest in peace. We will say a prayer for Nani Ma.
A beautiful tribute Soma.
Thanks a lot Dilip
Soma, your Nani was a beautiful lady. I love the white Saree too. She looks so elegant wearing it. She had a very long life filled with joy and sorrow and everything in between, I’m sure. She sounds like the kind of woman whose life was dedicated to serving others. What a good life she must have had! Thank you for sharing her with us.
Thank you too for linking to your mom. Hope you are well. Take care and my blessings to you. 🙂
Your words have such lovely pleasing effect…Thank you so much George
Soma, you gave your Nani a great tribute here…sorry to hear of her passing but I feel she is smiling (like her in this photo) with you and your family. Abundant blessings and all the best to you. 🙂
that was such a lovely thing you said…big hugs
Thank you 🙂
😉
I’m so sorry for your loss, Soma. It sounds as if Nani was quite a woman. And it sounds as if she was pretty healthy till the end, and for 94, that is certainly something. Probably a lot better than most of us will fare.
she was a super woman Binky ..she had gone through so much in her life and yet that never give up attitude was a big inspiration…
Thanks Binky
94 and kicking to the end. I can only wish. Sounds like an incredible woman and wishing all the best to your family
oh me too…she was a huge bundle of love and energy
Thanks Bearman
Missed your presence Soma…it surely was felt… it is good to read you again and to discover your ma’s blog…I am sorry for you loss but look at the immense love and memories you have been so very blessed to gain and cherish…all my love to you today.

Oh Soma – this post just touched me so deeply – can feel your love and admiration — spiritual connection to your Grandma (Nani) …. This was a beautiful tribute. Can see and feel she is a beautiful soul who will live on through you and your Mom — and all who loved her. I will go and read the links you share here… Your Mom sounds lovely – and the verse about you perfect!! Blessings my dear Soma… Hugs, R xo
Thank you so much Robyn for this beautiful message…

Hugs Soma. My grandmother too, was about 93 when she passed on. A livelier soul, and more wise one, I yet have to meet!
Had blogged about her a while ago, here. I know you’ll probably find similarities 🙂
Read from your mother too, of her!
Read it Usha ..brilliant tribute and you are right our grandmoms were quite alike
I’m so sorry, Soma! Sending you love and hugs xx
Thanks Deb, love ya 🙂
And your mom did sum you up very well 🙂

I am very sorry, Soma. Your Nani sounds like such a beautiful soul. You take care of yourself.
Thanks Kathryn, Nani was a lovely soul and everyone who knew her will miss her a lot..
I am sorry for your loss. Your tribute is fitting and reverent, and your sentiment at the end should be picked up and carried forth by everyone.
Thanks Steven in this mad rush keeep forgetting to be in touch and then all of a sudden someone leaves and all the must’s and should’s resurface, i hope i keep up what i wrote
so sorry for your loss soma, i lost my naani 2 years back and i totally relate to the fact that she made my summer vacations yummilicious! hope you find strength and courage in these testing times. -Soni
oh they knew how to pamper us…Thank you so much
A beautiful tribute indeed, may she rest in peace – life learned me that as long as my brain is in function will the dear one I’ve missed be in my heart – the day my brain isn’t in function anymore then I wouldn’t need that part anymore – our heart is wonderful place for hide “away” things and persons we don’t want to forget… 😉
so true Ledrake ..Thanks
What a dear soul. May she be with you always as she rests in peace.
That is so sweet of you..thank you 🙂
Blessings to the women of the family who served as your role model … and my your memories of your grandmother bring you peace and comfort.
Thanks Frank, the women in my family have been real strong and always inspiring … will miss Nani a lot
My mother passed on the 17th. Several times she returned momentarily from that deep departing fog to tell me she loved me.
Sorry Carl…Moms are so wonderfully giving and inspiring and it is one of the biggest loss when they are no more with us..

May she rest in peace Soma. A fine tribute indeed. Sending hugs and love.

Heart felt. I also remember my nani, who died last year. I was in school and no one told me about this news. Monts later, when I visited me nana and couldn’t find her then I asked him, ” wheres nani ? “…
He remained silent and then I looked around at everyone. I was feeling something, which i could never explane. Then I left the room without speaking to anyone.
Oh that is so sad Rahul, my heart goes out to you…
Hugs n love 🙂
Beautifully written tribute, Soma. May her soul rest in peace.
Thank you so much Manu, means a lot 🙂
so true, ” Cos you really never know when you will never get that chance to share that again ever”. As we get older, we see the canopies of our family tree thinning and realise how precious is the time spend with our near ones. Heartfelt condolences, Soma. Your Nani is in a better place now
Oh that is so sweet what you wrote….
