Ma-माँ

A soul was ready
to wear a new body
and take its place on earth
it looked at God and smiled nervously
God smiled back and asked
Dear I sense anxiety in your core
Is it because your new life awaits you on earth
Soul nodded and waited anxiously for more
God knew it and so He  asked
what is that one thing you would love to have when you go there
The soul asked for love, for hug,for warmth, for freedom,
for a Friend,for a mentor,for inspiration
it asked God for someone
who would take care of it as much and as well as
a root would of its leaves and flowers
God looked at the soul and chuckled
and said already a human haan
well why don’t I do one thing
make all your wishes come true with one precious gift
really- asked the surprised Soul
I cant wait to see what it would be
and the soul opened its eyes in a tiny little body
and That day for first time  I saw my Gift
My MOTHER

About Soma Mukherjee

I often say things that put me in a jam, Jams go well with Buttered Toasts, Toasts are great hosts, Ghosts not so much, Although they can dance, Not all dancers are serial killers, Serial killers do not use Body bags that often, body bags aren't leak proof, Proof is in the Pudding.

What a beautiful piece. Maa — such a heartwarming sound!
Female feoticide — as women, its the best cause to fight for any day. You are amazing, Soma. Even without the Mata part, I am willing to follow you 😉

I agree with granbee. The very best one. You wrote your tender tribute to your own mother in universal language to all mothers … including those who suffer imposed foeticide. Hope for all souls seeking a new beginning is in your words. This is lovely, Soma. You amaze me with your intellect and creativity and depth of understanding. You are an old soul, yourself. Bless you, Child.

{Lets embrace every soul in whichever body it chooses to come and start a new life} Never too late! I watched Aamir’s show last sunday in disbelief! The horrors some inflict on their own children, even grandchildren is plain disgusting!

    • Thanks Madhu..I watched that show too..and i cried a lot that day..
I dont know whether to call them animals or monsters….i wondered how can a human heart be so full of cruelty but then the whole history is full of such people….
my goodness to chew ones wife’s face cos she had two girls….or to kick one’s grandchild so that she dies…horrible horrible world

I am so touched after reading this poem…very beautiful!
Nothing in the world can compare to what Maa means to a child, and perhaps whatever I say, how hard I try I can never define how wonderful a mother is and never explain fully why a mother-child relationship is so special, so full of unconditional love!!
Truly God blessed mankind by making mothers…and it is absolutely right that:
“Bhagwaan har jagah nahi ho sakte the…isliye unhone maa ko banaya.”
Thank you for this lovely poetry!

Love and Hugs to you and Bonita. 🙂
