if a=4 and b=5 then what is zzz ?

The moment teacher said if A= 4 and B=5,then..
streams of thoughts in all colours and of weird shapes started dancing in her mind
A is 4 what happened to 1,2 and 3
where are they now,
how are they,
why would someone not count from the beginning?
what if a dragon ate all three of them
or mama bird thought they were worms and fed them to her kids
oh no!
what will the world of math do without 1,2 and 3?
it would be a disaster and next year they will have another lesson in history
about the three numbers that once were.. ouch !
what if they had been kidnapped last night by an evil king of a faraway land
what if they are waiting for help in a geography infested dungeon
we know what geography can do to numbers don’t we…
sent in a complex latitude longitude combinations never to be found again
but what if they ran away fed up with math
what if they are hiding in a tree house
or under a rock
God help if they started playing too close to a stream and then slipped in one of them
oh no 1,2,and 3 would be in an ocean by now
may be chased by a shark
or a blow fish trying to get away sucked in a lot of water and they are now in its stomach..
i have to help them,i must i must
who is calling out my name she thought
the voice calling her name was near now
she came back to this world and saw her teacher was looking at her
yes Ma’am she stood up in hurry and asked
if a=4 and b= 5 then what is…
but Ma’am are you not worried
about what
the missing 1 ,2 and 3
I  think they are in danger
they have been missing from the blackboard
and no one knows their whereabouts !

About Soma Mukherjee

  2. Whatever happened to one two and three
did they decide to go climb a tree
or have they just gone to pee
but one thought keeps coming to me
that maybe you let them free
    and helped them flee.

In short it was a terribly horrible laughing exercise to me to enhance my life span .YOU deserve a standing ovation.

  21. Very funny! So I guess you’re telling us math and numbers weren’t exactly your thing.

  22. Yes, numbers have so many stories to tell … I remember a comic I used to love when I was in France – We have an extraordinary comic culture in France, at the level of the best literature, science fiction, etc – it was about some extraordinary adventure I have forgotten apart that it was black & white and was happening somewhere in Ireland, in the wind and rain. It was starting with a young character, magician without knowing he was, who was singing a lithanie from old ages, ‘tell me the story of the number one …’ and it used to make me dream and wonder and fly … I spent some years studying the symbolism and language of numbers and really, if 1, 2 and 3 go missing, there is no way the world can carry on spinning round! It was a happy and meaningful read as always!

  29. Soma, you must have been the thorn in the flesh of each of your math teachers! Tee,hee! Just love this post because all the advanced math courses in my life taught me that numbers are man-made and incapable of explaining the universe–thank goodness!

    • Oh I just loved what you wrote here about numbers Rose 🙂
i was a hopeless case but the teachers too never made an effort to know why and what i did’t understand… teachers keep forgetting not every student gets it the first time..some need more time on certain topics..

  30. also, that was fun.

  31. it’s not important, but “geography infested dungeon…” you should put a hyphen between geography and infested. also, i think you need an “a” added to “king of __ faraway land.”

    • oh ok will correct it right now..thank you so much Rich

      • no problem. some people don’t like me to point out things like that. one person e-mailed me and yelled at me to never do that again. i guess maybe they were right in that i shouldn’t have done it in the comments. i guess they were embarrassed. so feel free to tell me not to do that.

        • Its just the opposite for me..i really appreciate people pointing out typos or grammatical errors, that means they read what i wrote and it helps me brush up my writing skills too

          Reply
          • that’s how WE look at it. but not everyone i guess. i always tell people that if you don’t point out my mistakes, then i’m going to keep making them. if you care about me, you’ll help me to fix my errors.

        • Perhaps one should perfect one’s own grammar before criticising others, maybe then someone will take you seriously, mind you with your literary skills I doubt if anyone would be remotely interested. Remember nobody likes a smart arse, especially one that comes across as a complete idiot.

  32. Isn’t it weird to think that someone had to “invent” the concept of zero? That it took a couple millennia for someone to say, “Let’s give nothing, the amount that’s not anything, a name.”
